New Bewerley Community School
« BackArchitect: Strategic Design Alliance
July 2006 saw the official beginning of the Strategic Design Alliance between Leeds City Council and international consultancy firm Jacobs, who will work with Architectural Design Services to ensure that future developments within the city meet first-class expectations.
A key element in the ongoing regeneration and renewal of the Holbeck neighbourhood of Leeds, the client requirement was for a new building to bring together two existing school communities under one roof, following the decision to combine Greenwood and Hillside schools on the Greenwood site.
An important community requirement was that it would act as a landmark, providing an iconic key focal point and stronger identity for the area. Other key requirements were that the school should be open and welcoming to the public, offer good natural lighting and ventilation, and present varied and interesting forms and shapes to stimulate learning.
